Heat Pumps to Be Required

Starting July 0f 2023, heat pumps will be required in all new construction homes, including apartments; in Washington State. This ruling by the Washington State Building Code Council was made Nov 4, 2022 and reported in The Seattle Times on November 8, 2022.

In April of 2022, the state’s building code was revised to require the same for commercial buildings.

Heat pumps operate on electricity and are expected to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and help lower planet-warming carbon emissions &  greenhouse pollution.

Federal funding for installation subsidies may be available through the Inflation Reduction Act.
